A midweek sports experts poll question to tide you over until Friday's regular column: What was your first team? What was the first team that you fell in love with, worshiped and knew everything about? This discussion was sparked by a comment from Jeff in last week's regular e-mail: "Someone asked me how I can stay a fan of the Jays, after basically tanking the past . . . well, 10 years. The truth is, that is the first team that was MY TEAM! Ever since I can remember, I've been a Jays fan." Here are some of the other responses: "My first team was the Phoenix Coyotes/Winnipeg Jets, but right now is by far the Michigan State Wolverines!" - Adam R. "I hate to say it but it was the Canadiens. It was my first jersey too, Bobby Rousseau ( he was a Canadien) was my favorite player. I am a Bobby he's a Bobby, it fit." - Bob H. "The first team I really followed was the Winnipeg (junior) Jets of the late sixties. I used to live about a mile from the Winnipeg Arena, so on Fridays/Saturdays during the winter my friends and I used to walk to the Arena and cheer the Jets on. I even remember Flin Flon with Clarke and Leach, et al. My really true favourite team would have to be the Winnipeg Jets of the WHA followed closely by the NHL Jets. I lived in Winnipeg for all of the WHA years and only one year of the NHL Jets. The memories are endless." - Tom T. For myself, I would have to say either the Calgary Flames or Saskatchewan Roughriders. I'm not sure when I became a fan, but I was ecstatic in 1989 when both of my teams won their respective championships. When I started playing ball, my team was and still is the Blue Jays, but I've started favouring the Cubs and Red Sox, as they at least have a chance of winning on a more regular basis.
