A packed week of sports has the 'experts' talking again. The Canadian Women's team finally lost a hockey championship. Amazing goaltending by the American and Canadian netminders saw the final game tied 0-0 after regulation and a 20-minute overtime. Then came the dreaded shoot-out, where the Canadians lost 3-1. The Canadian goaltender hardly faced any shots, never mind allowed a goal all tournament. It's a tough way to lose. "Hate, hate, hate the shootout to decide a championship. Takes away the whole point of playing a team game. Just a garbage way to decide a title." - Thomas B. Jr. "Since a shootout comes only after an overtime period, I have no problems with it to decide any game. When you know the rules before hand you should not be disappointed when things (the shootout) do not go your way. It is too bad that we lost but that is the way things go sometimes. As for the NHL, I would like to see the shootout in regulation season only. The playoffs are far too exciting to do away with overtime to get to a winner." - Tom T. "I like the shootout in a regular season format but not to decide a championship. On the other hand it does finish the game instead of playing a lot of OT's." - Rob B. "The World Women's Hockey decided by a shootout? Absolutely brutal. I mean St. Pierre faced about 20 shots the whole tourney and then is asked to stop breakaway after breakaway? What ever happened to earning your win the real overtime way? What a waste. Now, should the NHL return, they should adopt a 5-minute 4-on-4 overtime then a shootout to decide regular season games. As for playoffs, leave things alone." - Shane C. The Canadian men pulled a fast one and won the World Curling Championship, after a scare during the round robin. "Canada sure got lucky to get to the final where they put it all together to beat Scotland. You have to be lucky to be good and good to be lucky." - Tom T. "Canada once again wins the World Curling Championships. I must say, Randy Ferby's team this round seemed barely good enough and had to squeak in the back way. But, they bring home the prize to Canada. Way to go, but take note of your stumbles." - Shane C. What am I watching for sports these days? The Contender, Ultimate Fighting Championships, and Blue Jays Baseball. The live final for Ultimate Fighter on Spike was amazing. I spent all day on Saturday watching the marathon. If you like brutally real fight action, make sure you check it out. It is not a sport for the faint at heart. "I did watch the Ultimate Fighter finale, and I'll tell you this, even as a fan of the UFC before this, this really makes me want to order their PPV this Saturday. That Light Heavyweight fight was one of the top five fights I've seen." - Thomas B. Jr. "I watched the UFC on Saturday night. That sport is not for the faint of heart. Those guys beat each other in the octagon but then show a lot of respect for their opponent. It is not a sport for everyone but after watching the show and the finale I can say that I will watch it again." - Rob B. The Blue Jays dumped their top player Carlos Delgado in the off season, and now they are on top of the American League East. I, like the rest of the baseball world, can't see it lasting all season, but for now, go Jays go! "I am glad that Toronto got rid of Carlos Delgado Ð not that he was bad for the team but that they could free up salary money to get Koskie and Hillenbrand plus pick some of their farm products for the big league roster. I am not totally sold on their pitching yet and if anything this could be their downfall." - Tom T. "Thanks to Fantasy Baseball, the sport is becoming interesting. Many sports come to life as soon as you get a group of buds together for a little fun and test your skills and knowledge in a sport Ð that has been baseball for me this year." - Shane C.
