This week in the Sports Experts column, the panel takes a look at a Bomber streak to end the season, steroids in baseball and the NHL lockout. Jose Canseco has written a book that claims that baseball players are taking steroids. I know it's a shocking accusation, but the former Toronto Blue Jay would know Ð he was the designer steroid poster boy during his time. "What? Steroids in baseball you say? When did that happen? Next people will be saying wrestlers use steroids." - Shane C. "I think Canseco is just trying to stir up some interest in his book to make himself some $$ and that is about it." - Rob B. "Jose Canseco has a lot of guts to tell his story and does not appear to waver when confronted with questions about the allegations he has made about baseball's superstars. Unfortunately, we are going to be putting people like Mark McGuire in the Hall of Fame which will only have serious repercussions in the future as our kids look up to these athletes as role models. I really appreciate that baseball has developed a policy to handle steroid use but it still leaves a bad taste in your mouth in terms of the records already broken and probably soon to be broken and the belief that these records have been tainted by steroid induced record holders." - Tom T. The Flin Flon Bombers pounded the North Stars last weekend, and followed up by doubling the Melfort Mustangs on Wednesday on the road. "Congratulations to the Bombers for the exciting games on the weekend! The Bombers were just a way better team, and more deserving than Melfort to be in the playoffs. But, they didn't get it together in time." - Shane C. "I watched both games last weekend and the one player that stood out was the goalie, Pettit. Where did this guy come from? He stoned the Stars all weekend and was the reason that the Bombers got three of four points. I hope he is back next season." - Rob B. "The Bombers played extremely well this past weekend, it was a pleasure to watch. Beachell is already establishing himself as a true star in this league and his play of late should get him quite a few votes for league rookie of the year. Pettit is an excellent goaltender and a pleasure to watch and will help us in the future. Our defence is in good shape with the addition of the McCullough boys Ð we will have a great nucleus for next year. Our forwards are getting better and showing that some of them deserve to be here next year." - Tom T. "The Bombers played very hard on Friday and got robbed in more ways than one in OT. Beachell got mugged so bad that I think they even took his jock from him, never mind the scoring chance.ÊThen the goal that the Stars scored to win it was with the net off.ÊBut what can you do? I look forward to watching Beachell and Dupre and the McCullough boys next season." - Steve M. "I am pleased that the league is finally going to cancel the NHL season. I think that TSN's celebration of hockey is a little ironic considering there has not been one game this year. Why celebrate when we can watch other things that draw more viewers like golf, Nascar, arena football, college basketball or even poker. At least these guys are playing." - Rob B. "The NHL season in my books was over when the lockout started. Nothing will ever be the same. The union needs to realize that this is an entertainment business, and that the stars of the shows don't always get paid what they think they deserve. It's like Hollywood. The players need to suck it up like they do in Atlanta, Calgary, and Tampa Bay, and play some hockey." - Adam R. "It's becoming pretty obvious who the players union is trying to 'protect' now and it's not the 3rd and 4th liners making $150,000 a year. I'm sure if you asked all those players right now, they would all be in favor of whatever would get them back on the ice. All this complaining about money from the players is sickening. They won't accept $2 million a season to play in the NHL, but they will go and take some average player's spot in Europe for $50,000.ÊCome on!ÊI think the owners should just go with whoever wants to play for the money they are offering.ÊThe league would probably be more exciting to watch anyway." - Steve M.
