The topic of discussion is on the ball diamond. I asked the panel which teams they thought would come out of the American and National League, and who would come out on top as World Series champions. Brent Lethbridge: I care as much about baseball as I do the Vancouver Canucks when the Blue Jays are not in the post-season. No disrespect meant to America's past time, but it's always the (N.Y.) Yankees and some other team in the World Series. The some other team could be the L.A. Dodgers or maybe the Philadelphia Phillies. I like the (L.A.) Dodgers because they can hit four home runs in the bottom of the 9th to pull out a victory. Something in the human spirit likes to see the Yankees get beat up by a team where you can't remember the names of three players. Then again the (N.Y.) Mets could be a sentimental favourite too, just because they are the "miracle Mets". The players couldn't complain about jet lag in a series between the Yankees and the Mets. But then again with the hockey season coming up next week and all those Seinfeld reruns who has time for baseball. I'll pick whoever Jason Mandes picks because he is probably more interested in it than I am. (Note: Since Jason Mandes doesn't follow baseball, there will be no submission by him.) Tanner Brough: Holy crap, this is one of the most exciting years of baseball ever. So many teams are still in the hunt for a playoff birth and it's late September. The (Houston) Astros won like eight or nine straight and the (St. Louis) Cardinals lost a bunch to make it interesting in the National League Central. I'm sure the Cards will still win that Divison, but not by much. The Dodgers and (San Diego) Padres are tied in the West. Both should be in the post season(one as a wildcard). That means the Phillies should be out, but just barely. I pick the Mets to come out of the National League. They lost Pedro for the year, but still have the ageless wonder Tom Glavine and El Duque (Orlando Hernandez) to turn to for a massive amount of playoff pitching experience. Cardinals will meet the Mets for the National League title. In the American League, the Central Divison has been the talk all year. Detroit and the (Minnesota) Twins are both flying, but still don't have as many wins as the Yankees. Oakland wins the West again and will have their hands full against the Central winner (Twins/Tigers). I hate to say it, but the Yankees are gonna be very hard to stop, again. Randy Johnson has a hurt back but that's expected when you're 100. The Yankees have enough depth to dress a whole other all-star team, so The Big Unit out shouldn't hold them back. I guess I'll pick the stupid Yankees in the World Series for a "Broadway Series". I really hope I'm wrong about the Yankees, and they get upset early in the playoffs.
