Last week was a good one for sports fans. The Flin Flon Bombers won their first road game of the season, the NFL finalists have been decided, and at least the NHL players and owners are talking again. If you are a Theoren Fleury fan, Hockey Alberta has finally agreed to let the former NHL star play Senior Hockey. Despite the fact that the Bombers were severely out shot in games on the road last week, they managed to get a win against the Notre Dame Hounds. Ten points behind the Melfort Mustangs with nine games to go, you can't help but wonder what might have been, if only the Bombers had gotten their act together earlier in the season. Also, if the season was 60 games instead of 55 this season, would that have been enough? "What to say about those Bombers? They finally won one on the road. Good game, too, by the sounds of it.Ê As much as I hate to say this, I think that their season is over.ÊThey had to win that game against Weyburn.Ê With that said, they are still mathematically in the hunt, so you never know.ÊBig game on Friday and I am sure Notre Dame will be looking to get some revenge from the last game." - Steve M. "I truly was not expecting to make the playoffs but I was expecting a more positive approach to what we have been used to seeing prior to the trades. In fairness, I like the way this team is playing the game now, especially in terms of playing as a team. At this stage of the game and with the amount they have been playing, even our rookies are no longer rookies, so why are some still playing like they were back in midget? Certain players are trying to make high risk moves like running at someone to make the big hit, but because it was such a high risk it takes them completely out of the play and causes the opposition to take advantage of our rather stupid mistakes." - Tom T. The Super Bowl match ups are set, with New England the favourites to beat Philadelphia. I'm looking to see some magic from the Eagles, and I hope they destroy the Patriots. "Both teams that should be in the Super Bowl are there.Ê I think it's going to be a good game, but I can't see McNabb being able to solve the tenacious defense of the Patriots.ÊI am gonna go with New England to win it by 10." - Steve M. "Well, my Vikings are on the golf course already although I was not silly enough to believe they would be playing in the big game. The conference championships were great with the four best teams playing. Any one of them would make a very deserving champion. I really like Philly over New England." - Tom T. "My NFL predictions are the worst in history. All my picks lost except for New England. St. Louis vs New England in the Super Bowl Ð what was I thinking? Even though I can't stand the Pats, I'm picking them to give the Eagles a beating with or without Terrell Owens." - Jason M. The last chance of saving the NHL season may be today, as the NHL players and owners meet in a secret location, without Garry Bettman or Bob Goodenow. Last week Trevor Linden called a meeting, and then was shocked that the NHL wouldn't lay down their arms. May be he didn't ask nice enough . . . "What was Trevor Linden expecting the ownership group to do when he asked for a meeting between the players and the owners? It was nice that it was without the two bobbleheads who got us into this mess but if the players were not prepared to offer any further concessions with the same being said of the owners, what was the point and why the long sad face Trevor?" - Tom T. "I'm begging the NHL and NHLPA to work out a deal. A few days ago I found myself cheering for the Raptors. I couldn't get enough of the NBA highlights and I hate basketball." - Jason M. With two important games this weekend and two on the road next week, the Bombers should have a better picture of where they stand by this time next week. They will either be mathematically eliminated or right behind Melfort. With the NHL talks expected to wrap up, and the Super Bowl upcoming, next week's column should be a good one.
