The Yorkton Terriers have hired Garry Carson as their new Director of Scouting and Player Personnel. Carson has spent the last six years scouting with the WHL's Swift Current Broncos. He has also worked with the Sask First program. His relationship with Don Chesney (ex-Yorkton Terrier coach) dates back to the late 1980's and early 1990's. He has helped Chesney (and the Terriers) with prospects and other young list players for the each of the former Head coach/general manager's two seasons. "Basically, the only difference between what I did for Don and what I am going to do for Ed (Zawatsky) is that I will now spend more time scouting the other junior leagues. Previously, I mainly worked with younger players on the way up." Zawatsky, who worked as Chesney's assistant for two years before getting the head coaching post earlier this summer, has had the added title of Director of Hockey Operations added to his business card. From a fan's perspective, it will be Zawatsky that engineers trades and makes day to day roster decisions. Garry's son Brett is a member of the WHL's Calgary Hitmen and a former player with the Yorkton 'AAA' Midget Mallers (now the Harvest). He was selected by the Carolina Hurricanes in the fourth round of the NHL Entry Draft in June.8/17/2004
