Submitted by Donna Champagne Kinsley boys have been athletes and scholars for decades. So it should be no surprise to Flin Flon and surrounding area that the most recent highflier follows his brothers celebrated academic accomplishments with athletic achievements. Sam Kinsley became a member of the Manitoba Provincial Basketball Team in the 17U age group. Their first tournament, which took place in Regina from July 14-16, resulted in a performance with three solid wins and scoring 80 to the winning 83 in the fourth of those games. The 17-year-old played hard, scored well, and showed his strength and value time and again throughout the tournament. In March, he began his undertaking with weekend trips to Winnipeg as the only non-Winnipeg player. Kinsley later moved to Winnipeg for the summer at the end of the school year to join his team in practice and preparation for the Nationals _ which will take place in Sherbrooke, Quebec. Other members of Sam's extended family have been known in Flin Flon for their athletics and for academics so his success is celebrated in a long line of achievers. Kinsley will compete in his next out-of-province tournament in Minneapolis later this month, followed by the games in Quebec. We can all wish him well as he represents both Manitoba and Flin Flon in these competitions. I'm sure he'll do us proud if the Regina competition is any example of how he and his whole team performs.
