Three teams of two scoured Walmart in search of items to build an emergency preparedness kit in this year's Red Cross challenge. Taking off with a 25-minute deadline, an empty shopping cart, and a guideline of the basic items needed, the teams raced to build the best kit last Friday, August 16. Mayor George Fontaine teamed up with Mayor Al McLauchlan from The Pas as The Worships, while Krista Lemcke and Libby Stoker-Lavelle raced against the clock in the name of The Reminder and Cottage North. The Ministers were made up of Jim Galbraith and Andrew McGregor as they placed first overall. Second place went to The Reminder, while The Worships picked up first place for creativity. After the 25-minute mark was up teams made their way back to the front of the store where judges took note of what they collected. The Worships came back with entertaining stories for each item _ including a flatscreen television in case a ball game was on _ while The Ministers brought their items safely packed inside totes. The Red Cross challenge stresses the importance of having an emergency kit prepared at all times that will last for up to 72 hours.
