Athletes, coaches, managers and mission staff from the Saskatchewan Special Olympics were introduced and honoured in the Legislative Assembly on Thursday. Team Saskatchewan competed in the 2008 National Special Olympic Winter Games in Quebec City from February 26 - March 1, 2008. The 31 athletes and 16 coaches, managers and mission staff made Saskatchewan proud by bringing home 12 gold, six silver and three bronze medals. ÒDedication, self-discipline and perseverance are the requirements to compete at this level and these athletes show the heart and the passion it takes,Ó Tourism, Parks, Culture and Sport Minister Christine Tell said. ÒCoaches and mission staff show the same dedication and are key contributors to these athletesÕ success.Ó Special Olympics Saskatchewan is the organization responsible for all aspects of team development and participation at the Special Olympic Games. They receive annual funding from Saskatchewan Trust and supplement their operations with various sponsorships and fundraising efforts.
