Players have come a long way since the start of the 2007-08 season, and some of them showed off their skills during the SJHL All-Star game recently. Flin Flon's Reid MacLeod, Dennis Kubat, Pierre-Luc Boucher and Myles Masse were among those chosen to play for the Itech Conference team. And although the team was beat 11-5 by the Sherwood Conference, the Bombers were well represented. Masse, the only Bomber to earn a point during the game, had an assist on the teamÕs second goal of the game. The game was two periods long, with the results of the skills competition carrying over into the match-up. Itech won the skills portion 3-2. There were also no penalties in the game for either team. For the Itech Conference Taylor Nelson of the Humboldt Broncos started things off in net for the Itech team, while Ilia Ejoy, of the Melfort Mustangs, played the second half of the game. Sherwood Conference saw Lynden Sammartino, from Yorkton, in net while Ryan Nieszner of Kindersley played back up. All goalies proved well as the Itech had 25 shots on net, while the Sherwood goalies saw 41 shots on net throughout the game. The first period saw Itech get the ball rolling as Bruno-Pierre Gosselin, assisted by Russ Nielsen and Laurent Benjamin, found the back of the net only 1:12 after the puck dropped. But it was Kyle Ermel who got things going for Sherwood as he, fed by Kealin Wong and Kyle Stroh, found his way past Nelson only five minutes later. And it was a sea of Sherwood as they scored another four goals before the Itech team got back on the board. The scoring for the four other goals went as follows: Kyle Haines, assisted by Scott Linnell and Jonathan Redlick, at 7:30; Payden Benning, assisted by Ermel and Stroh, at 9:50; Linnell, assisted by Rylan Schwartz, at 11:57; and Redlick, assisted by Brett Leedahl and Jordan Pawelec, at 12:19. But the Itech team didnÕt put it past them as Jordan Schnidal found the back of the net, with help from Jordie Johnston and Masse, a few minutes later. With the score now 5-2 for Sherwood, Schwartz didnÕt seem to think it as enough, as he lit the lantern, making it 6-2, with help from linemates Travis Janke and Kyles Haines. And it was Janke who turned around and scored and unassisted goal on Nelson, before scoring another one, with help from Preston Shupe, to end the period. At the end of the first period it was 8-2 for Sherwood. The teams made their way back to the ice for the second period as Johnston scored off the bat again, giving Itech another point on the board. Assisted in JohnstonÕs goal were linemates Jarrid Dowhay and Matt Rintoul. But soon after Sherwood was on the board again with another goal from Benning, assisted by Stroh and Haines. The next two goals would be the last two for team Itech as Brett Ottmann, assisted by Taylor watt and Rintoul found the back of the net just before teammates Schnidal, with help from Shawn McNulty and Ottmann, scored. But it was Redlick who scored the two final goals for Sherwood as he was fed by Brett Leedahl and Ryan Sawka, on both goals.
