The fifth annual Million Dollar Hole in One contest is coming up shortly in Flin Flon, Thompson and The Pas. The Phantom Lake Golf Course and Driving Range will play host to the fundraiser from July 24-29. Money raised from the golf balls sold will go to the Tri-Service clubs - the Kinsmen, Lions and the Rotary. As an early bird, players can purchase a bucket of balls for $15 or buy their bucket at the event for $20. Each bucket contains 30 balls, but a player can purchase individual balls for 50 cents each. The Rotary Club's Catherine Hynes says they haven't quite decided how this year's money is going to be spent. "We have a meeting each year to decide how things are going to be done, but it's been so crazy we haven't gotten there yet," she says. "Last year we helped with the fit trail and the year before was the Lions Handi-van and then the year before we (bought) the dishwasher for the community centre," she says. The Kinsmen, Lions and Rotary get together and plan a project which will help the community in some way. And as far as the golfing itself goes, Maureen Kozar of CFAR 590, one of the sponsors, says there are all kinds of ways to win. "We take the top 10 people from each day and they compete for the finals. Each player is given three more chances to win great prizes," she says. "And from there, we take the top three and they compete for the million dollars in the finals." The Million Dollar Hole in One has never been won by anyone in Flin Flon, "so maybe this is the year," says Kozar. The competition is open to all ages with three different groups. "We have the main leader board, the women's leader board and then the junior board as well," says Hynes. "Because really, an eight-year-old can't drive the same as an adult, so this way it's more fair for them."
