February 11th marked an important day for both Samuel Dufour-Jarvis and Michelle Tremblay-Boulianne of Flin Flon. Samuel received his second poom belt and Michelle her first poom at the Winnipeg Kang's Taekwondo Black Belt Test. Students 15 and under receive a poom belt, a black and red belt, which recognizes their achieving the level of a black belt. When they reach 15 they re-test to prove they are now full black belt members. Both students were well prepared and excited to receive acknowledgment for the work they have done to achieve this level. Future events include the March 4th special seminar, hosted by Flin Flon, for the Norman region. This will include Gillam, Lac Brochet, The Pas, Denare Beach and Cranberry Portage. Master King Yeung, a 7th degree Black Belt and Chief Head Instructor of Winnipeg's Headquarters, will be instructing at the Seminar. Master Yeung was born in 1958, Hong Kong, China. He began training at Kang's Academy in 1977. In 1979 Master Yeung was the Canadian National champion for Fly Weight division and a member of the Canadian National Team for the 4th World Championships in Germany. In 1981 Master Yeung continued sparring with the Canadian National Team as the Bantam Weight Champion. In 1983 Grand Master Kang appointed Master Yeung as an Assistant instructor with Kang's Taekwondo Academy. In 1985 he was once again the Canadian National Champion for Fly Weight and a member of the Canadian National Team for the 7th World Championships in Korea. From 1995 to present he has been the selected Provincial Coach for National Team Trials. This is the 30th anniversary of Kang's Taekwondo Academy in Winnipeg. To mark the celebration there will be a special awards dinner at the August Black Belt test.
