The summer is quickly coming to an end which means synchro season is starting up. The Flin Flon/Creighton Aqua Doves are Manitoba's only northern synchronized swimming team. Synchronized Swimming _ or Synchro for short _ has been described in many ways. It can be described as a hybrid form of swimming and dance consisting of swimmers (solos, duets, teams or combinations) performing a synchronized routine of elaborate moves in the water, accompanied by music. Synchronized swimming demands water skills, and requires great strength, endurance, flexibility, grace, artistry and precise timing, as well as exceptional breath control when upside down underwater. Synchronized Swimming skills are acquired through a skill development system called the Star Program by Synchro Canada. It is a progressive way to learn Synchro skills regardless of your ultimate goals. The Flin Flon/Creighton Aqua Doves will be offering a few different programs this season. Synchro Squirts is a new program that the Aqua Doves are excited to offer. Synchro Squirts is an aquatic development program intended for younger swimmers ages six to nine, or Level One & Two of the Red Cross Swimming Lessons. Basic swimming and Synchro skills are acquired through purposeful play. The new program will be coached by Katie Kozak and Kelcey Andersen who will be in the water with the athletes during Synchro Squirts. The club will continue to offer the Recreation/Star 1-3 levels. First time swimmers must have the equivalent of completing Level 3 of the Red Cross Swimming Lessons. The Provincial/Competitive Stream will have the Swimmers progress through the age levels as they build on their skills and continue to master the skills in each Star level (Stars 4-10, and Superstars 1-5). The equipment required for Aqua Doves is minimal. All athletes require a one piece bathing suit, nose plugs, bathing cap, and water bottle. Registration for the 2013-2014 season will take place on September 4-5. For those unsure if synchro is for them, the club is offering a free trial in October to test the waters. We guarantee you will enjoy what Synchro has to offer. The Aqua Doves will be at this year's Canadian Cancer Society's Relay for Life warming up the participants with apple cider. Come out to support a great cause and also to meet our athletes, coaches, and parent executive committee.
