As a way to peak the interest of young synchronized swimmers, a clinic will be held this weekend to teach the basic skills of the sport. Raeanne Donaldson, a former Aqua Doves coach, along with fellow coach Amanda Link, will be teaching the swimmers the different types of sculling and figures. ÒWe will spend the first half on basic skills and the second half....will be doing a routine,Ó says Donaldson. The clinic is open to anyone with at least a Red Cross Level 4 in swimming Ð which is generally age six and up, but there is no age limit. ÒWe are looking to get new people interested (in synchronized swimming) and the older to point (the new ones) in the right direction,Ó Donaldson says. As images of the sport dance through some peopleÕs minds, Donaldson says itÕs not as difficult as some think. ÒYou just have to learn the different skills that you donÕt normally learn in regular swimming lessons,Ó she says. ÒYou have to expand on those.Ó After taking the clinic, which runs on Saturday at the Flin Flon Aqua Centre, Donaldson says the athletes will have a base knowledge of Aqua Doves. For more information, contact Raeanne Donaldson at 688-7246 or Amanda Link at 687-8781.
