Jonathon Naylor Editor The Jamie Switzer and Diane Burwash rinks finished atop the pack as Flin Flon's most experienced curlers took to the ice for a pair of popular bonspiels. The Senior Men's Bonspiel and the Senior Ladies' Bonspiel both took place at Willow Park Curling Club over the weekend. 'I think it's been another successful year,' said John Munson, organizer of the men's bonspiel along with Lyle Lavis, Don Melien and Bev Baker. Men's side On the men's side, the Jamie Switzer rink of third Lyle Lavis, second Lorne Morrison and lead Harry Antoniw took the Credit Union Event, the top event. They defeated the Don Hume rink of Norm Flagel, Wes Hornyak and Steve Shtuka in Sunday afternoon's final. Winning first in the men's second event, the Don Holmes Trucking Event, was the John Munson rink of Gord Brown, Ron Baschuk and Darrell Nomeland. Munson bested the Jim Meyer rink of Don Melien, Bill Borschewski and Rick Jackson. In the third event, the Kleen All Event, the Don Holmes rink of Gary Kozar, Bryan Dixon and Mel Hammell came out on top. See 'Lad...' on pg. 12 Continued from pg. 4 To do so, Holmes defeated the Doug Dutcawich rink of Bev Baker, Joe Cap and Murray Grimes. Capturing the Credit Union Event on the ladies' side was the Diane Burwash rink of Myrna Agerbak, Fern Kozak and Denise Rose. They were victorious over the Donna Streitle rink of Nellie Jebson, Bernice Galay and Phyllis MacKenzie. Second event Winning the second ladies' event, the Arctic Beverages Event, was the Ann Hardy rink of Ruth Tizzard, Yvonne Davis and Irene Kozar. Hardy downed the Donna Hurst rink of Sheila Leclerc, Karin Hanson and Pat Meyer. In the third event, the Bonspiel Committee Event, the Irene Johnston rink of Betty Fehr, Katy Anderson and Dela Chilson earned top spot. They bested the Geri Kostuchuk rink of Evelyn Meyer, Angie Persson and Gail Baker. Munson is hoping next year will bring a better turnout than the eight men's and six ladies' teams that competed in the friendly yet competitive 'spiel. The bonspiel was open to curlers aged 50 and over.
