Out of 65 races, the Flin Flon Aqua Jets placed 45 times. Jim Aune, with the Flin Flon Aqua Jets, coached seven swimmers at the Prince Albert Invitational Swim Meet last weekend. The team had a successful meet and were able to bring home a number of ribbons. As well as ribbons, Garrison Aune earned himself second place overall for the boys 11-12 years old, while Kyla Suss came in third for the 10 and under girls. Both swimmers were up against quite a few other athletes, as Garrison had 17 boys in his group and Kyla had 31 girls to compete against. The first day of the two-day swim meet saw the athletes compete in 100-metre races to qualify for the main event. According to Aune, the top 10 swimmers made the finals Ð which was the only way to get a ribbon. With four races in the morning and another four in the evening, the swimmers had their work cut out for them. ÒThey did extremely well,Ó says Aune. And as Sunday rolled around, the team was looking even better. Out of the 45 ribbons the team earned, 36 of them came from sprinting on Sunday. The Aqua Jets are preparing for their next meet, in Thompson, at the end of January. But as for Prince Albert, Aune couldnÕt get over how well the team did. Overall, four Aqua Jets Ð Garrison Aune, Kyla Suss, Emma Peterson, Jenna Bratvold Ð have qualified for the Manitoba Provincials, but Aune says there are still a couple who might make their time yet. With two meets left and the Provincials in March, the Aqua Jets are trying their hardest to get those provincial b-times. Though four of the swimmers have already qualified, they still have opportunity to qualify for more races. As Aune says, the more races you qualify in, the more races you swim.
