Kelly Carrington Staff Writer It wasn't the turnout Canadian fans were hoping for from the IIHF World Junior Hockey Championships as Team Sweden took Gold, over Russia, in overtime to win the 1-0 game while Team Canada competed for the Bronze. Undefeated in the round robin and until they met Team Russia, Canada seemed a shoe-in for the Gold medal game _ winning games 8-1 over Finland and 10-2 over Denmark. Losing 6-5 to Russia, Canada took it's place in the Bronze final against Finland. Defeating them 8-1 early in the tournament Canada took their second victory over Finland this year _ 4-0 _ for the medal. Scoreless A scoreless game in regulation time between Sweden and Russia it wasn't until half way through the over time period that Sweden found the back of the net to call the game. The Yellow and Blue took their Gold medal with pride as it was the first time for the country since 1981. The scoreless regulation time wasn't for a lack of effort on Sweden's end as they outshot the Russians 58-17. 'I can't describe the feeling,' said Mika Zibanejad, the scorer of the winning goal. 'I jumped on the loose puck, and I took it to the backhand. 'At that moment,' he was quoted on the IIHF WJHC website, 'I felt I was in control. Of course, this is the biggest goal for me so far in my career.' Throughout the course of the tournament, which got underway on Boxing Day, Sweden was undefeated as they took on Russia on December 31 as well _ earning a 4-3 win. Russia was undefeated until it came to Sweden _ losing once on New Years Eve as well as in the final. Through the tournament Canada was undefeated until meeting Russia while Finland went 4-3, losing twice to Canada and once to Sweden. Records Canada went 5-1 in the tournament, defeating Finland 8-1, Czech Republic 5-0, Denmark 10-2, USA 3-2 and lost 6-5 to Russia before defeating Finland 4-0 for the Bronze.
