The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League has announced a three game suspension to La Ronge's Barrett Brook. Brook was given a match penalty with eight seconds remaining in game two of the Itech Conference final against the Battlefords North Stars on Saturday night when he ran into netminder Guillaume Miszczak. Miszczak was shaken up, but not seriously hurt on the play. The Stars were 5-3 winners to take a 2-games-to-none lead in the series. Brook will miss games three, four and five in the series. Meanwhile, La Ronge bench boss Bob Beatty was fined $200 for getting ejected with eight seconds remaining in game two.ÊAssistant Terry Hunt was fined $250 for a gross misconduct incurred after the game was over. Both teams are also warned by the SJHL Head Office that if either team fails to control its players, immediate fines and suspensions will be levied. The Estevan Bruins have announced 20-year-old forward Bear Trapp has accepted a scholarship to Sacred Heart of the Atlantic Hockey Conference (NCAA Division I). Trapp finished second in the SJHL scoring parade this season with 28-goals and 45-assists in 50-games played. The Regina native, who also calls Estevan his home, has played in the SJHL for four seasons. Most of his time was spent in Melville with the Millionaires, but the Mils traded their captain just prior to the January 10th deadline. Trapp is regarded as a strong leader with an excellent work ethic and was one of the top penalty killers in the SJHL prior to exploding offensively this year. The Pioneers have two other former SJHL players on their current roster with ex-Melfort forward Kalen Wright, a sophomore, and senior goalie Kevin Lapointe (an ex-Bruin) occupying spots.
