For the second consecutive year, area residents will have a chance to show their support for people living with multiple sclerosis in the Super Cities Walk For MS. Flin Flon is one of 12 communities in Manitoba that participates in the walk. This year's walk will take place on Sunday, May 1, with check-in at the Elks Hall at noon. The walk will begin at 1 p.m. You can choose to walk 5 or 10 km. Multiple Sclerosis is a chronic, often disabling disease that attacks the brain and spinal cord (central nervous system). It can cause loss of balance, impaired speech and vision, extreme fatigue, and partial or complete paralysis. The purpose of the walk is to be a leader in finding a cure for multiple sclerosis and in enabling people affected by MS to enhance their quality of life. Last year the walk in Flin Flon raised nearly $10,000, with 60 walkers taking part. People can register individually or as a team of at least four. It is always more fun to walk with a group of friends. Many people walk on behalf of someone they know who is living with MS. Form a team and create a challenge against another team. Everyone who participates will have their name entered into a door prize draw. There will also be team awards and prizes for reaching designated pledge amounts. Lunch will be served after the walk. All ages are welcome to participate, and the route is wheelchair accessible. You can go at your own pace. Registration forms are available at various locations around town, and pledge sheets are available at Grey Goose Bus Lines. You can also register on the Super Cities Walk for MS website at www.supercitieswalk.com. The first 2,500 people to register online will receive a special prize.
