Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Summer is almost here and Marissa Abbott has been working hard at planning fun and exciting activities for Summer in the Parks. As the new supervisor, Abbott has been spending her days planning, organizing and brainstorming new ideas not only to keep the children safe and entertained, but to teach them as well. This year's Summer in the Parks camp will offer a variety of themes. While keeping the ever-popular Superhero Week, which will hopefully introduce the children to the Flin Flon Fire Department as well as the RCMP, the camp also offers themes such as "Water, Water, Everywhere," "Flinty's Summer Olympics" and even a "Space Galaxy Discovery Week." Abbott, who is new to the camp world, says she's really excited to get things going and to be involved with the children. Studying nursing in school with the hopes of working in a children's hospital, Abbott says she can't wait to see the campers. The supervisor says she has a great group of counsellors in Natasha Rothlander, Amber Klause, Mikayla Gawiak, Rhianne Rodnisky, Luke Holubec and Ben Kinsley (assistant supervisor). Along with the organized theme weeks, campers will be able to make arts and crafts, play games, take field trips and go swimming. Though all the field trips aren't fully worked out just yet, Abbott says she hopes to bring the campers to Bakers Narrows, Denare Beach and the Joe Brain Petting Zoo. Summer in the Parks gets underway on Monday, July 5 and runs through to August 26. The base of the camp will again be at the Willowvale wading pool and Willowpark Curling Club.
