Sunshine, friendships and lots of new experiences will help educate children through the Summer in the Parks program. The eight-week program is open to children between the ages of five and eight and will teach culture, sport, water fun and outdoor experiences. Complete with field trips to various locations, Summer in the Parks will be organized this year by Athea Fernandes and Erin Hall. Both young women are new to the camp and look forward to the challenge that lies ahead. The camp runs for eight weeks, beginning July 2 and ending Aug. 23. During the eight weeks, campers will take a simulated trip around the world as they learn about various countries and local culture. They will also learn all kinds of new water games and even go on a treasure hunt! Superheroes will overtake the Flin Flon Petting Zoo in the fourth week of Summer in the Parks as the campers will learn how to be heroes for the people around them. From there, the campers will head into the great outdoors the next week. Planned hikes will make the week fly by as campers learn the importance of keeping the outdoors clean. After that, campers will learn about animals through games and relays. The seventh week of the program is all about athletes. Stars will shine in soccer, floor hockey, dodgeball and more. The final week of the camp is all about talent. During that week, campers will spend their time rehearsing and learning new dances for a talent show. Parents, friends and family will be encouraged to watch the talent show as it will end out the final day of Summer in the Parks. In previous years, the camp has used the Willow Park Curling Club has a home base for rainy days. This year, the camp will use the Petting Zoo.
