The local synchronized swimming team, the Flin Flon/Creighton Aqua Doves, were in Winnipeg April 22 and 23. The 13 athletes competed in Synchro Manitoba's Crocus Challenge at the Pan Am Pool. The athletes competed against swimmers from the Winnipeg Synchro Club and Thunder Bay Synchro in the figure, solo and duet components of the meet. Each swimmer was eager to show off her routines and figures they had been practicing since October. On Saturday, April 23 the day began early with the figure competition. The girls were patient as they showed the panel of judges such figures as; back tuck somersault, ballet leg single, neptunas, flamingo bent knee and porpoise spin 180. The solo competition started on Saturday afternoon. Six Aqua Doves competed in the solo from tier one to tier five. Here are the results from the solo competition. Tier one - Dallas Mihalicz, first place Tier three - Morgan Wenger, first Place Tier four - Jessica Vaillancourt, first place and Jillian Rudd, second place Tier five - Cara Hill, first place The duet competition began on April 23. The Doves' first year swimmers all competed in the tier one duet category. The tier one and two duets did an awesome job staying in sync with their partner and routine music. Here are the results for the tier one and tier two duet competition. Tier one - Brittany Blackmon and Bryanne Ross, first place Jazmin Hysert and Fawn Rothlander, second place Brett Wenger and Madison Mihalicz, third place Tier two - Karma Cridland and Jenna Rudd, fifth place The Aqua Doves' season came to a close on Thursday, April 27 with the water show with friends, family and the community who came and checked out this year's routines. Great season girls! Hope to see returning and new swimmers in the fall for the upcoming season.
