Instead of traveling the world like The Amazing Race show, 20 competitors on 10 teams will explore Flin Flon in the Amazing Rat Race. "This is a good event because we're finding ways to replace money we spend," says Jason Mandes, events coordinator for the Flin Flon Friendship Centre. "We found a way to do our own fundraising." The race consists of different tasks that focus on addictions prevention, as Nov. 20 to 26 is National Addictions Awareness Week. The Amazing Rat Race starts at Neighbours of the North Park and finishes at the Co-op. Races will be on Nov. 26 at 1 p.m. "I'm pretty jacked now," Mandes says. "It should be a good fundraiser. See what the pledges look like." He's hoping to bring in at least $500. Teams participating are the Women's Resource Centre, NOR-MAN Community Services, RBC Royal Bank, Friendship Centre, Flin Flon School Division and Flin Flon Kinettes. When asked if he thinks people will get competitive, Mandes says a few might. "The race is for fun," he says. 11/21/2005
