Students from Creighton Community School participated in the National Walk to School Day on Friday, October 5. Almost the whole school, including staff, covered the streets early Friday morning as they walked into the school grounds. Busses ran their regular routes but instead of dropping children off at the school, they were left four blocks away. Organizer and rec director for the school Gatlin Church says it was "taking one more step to getting active" for many of the children. Police from the Creighton department acted as cross guards, to ensure the students made it safely to the school. While many students only walked the four blocks, five students took it upon themselves to walk a little bit longer - 22.4 kilometers longer to be exact. Students Jody Christanson, Joel Couper, Troy Dease, Jonah Pretzer and Colton Knuston left Denare Beach at 5:30 a.m. and walked into the school at 9:10 a.m. The boys, according to Church, walked in hopes of encouraging more students to do the same. Church says he was pleased with the outcome and it's "good to see the students take part." He also says he hopes to see everyone out again next year, along with all of the Flin Flon schools as well. McIsaac School Ecole McIsaac along with Ruth Betts School took part in this year's walk as well.
