Nearly 60 students from the northern region took part in the first basketball camp to be held in Creighton. The basketball players hit the courts to learn the fundamentals of the game, along with a few new drills. Creighton Community School opened its doors to Lakelands College coach Davis Harmon. Harmon helped both junior and senior boys and girls perfect their game. But a few students walked away with more than just a good feeling of the game. From the weekend-long camp a few students were scouted for both Lakelands College along with others. Organizer Ryan Gray, with the school, says the main scout was for Lakelands, to help add to their team, but also to see what was available. ÒOther coaches will be contacted,Ó he says. With this being the first camp the school has hosted, Gray says he was pleased with the way things went. ÒWe had pretty good numbers. We were expecting a few more, but with other things going on this weekend... I was very pleased,Ó says Gray. ÒIt was very good...and weÕre looking to do another camp,Ó he says, adding that it wonÕt be until the fall. Gray says he hopes to do another camp in November before the season starts, and Òhopefully get another one going next April.Ó The organizer says everything has a starting point and this is theirs. Although learning the game is an important part of the camp, the scouting possibilities are also a large part of the weekend. ÒIt makes students aware that there are other schools out there to continue their education and hope for scholarships,Ó Gray says.
