Ron MacLean and Don Cherry head east on Jan. 7, 2006 to Stephenville, Newfoundland, which has been named the official host location for CBC's Hockey Day in Cananda. The live broadcast starts at 12 noon ET, and host Ron MacLean will go rinkside at the Stephenville Dome to tell the story of this intriguing community and take viewers on a thrilling 13.5 hour-long hockey journey across Canada. Don Cherry will join MacLean in Stephenville for all of the festivities. In what has become an unofficial holiday for Canadian hockey fans everywhere, CBC'S Hockey Day in Canada's sixth annual broadcast will feature the traditional NHL all-Canadian tripleheader starting with Ottawa at Montreal at 2 p.m. ET, followed by Toronto at Edmonton at 7 p.m. ET and Calgary at Vancouver at 10 p.m. ET. Leading up to and in between the NHL action, CBC'S Hockey Day in Cananda will explore the importance of our game to communities across Canada. "Stephenville epitomizes what Hockey Day in Cananda is all about," said Joel Darling, executive producer of CBC'S Hockey Night in Canada. "What better place to celebrate our game at the grass roots level than on Newfoundland's west coast, where hockey has a long and important history. Stephenville is a proud community that is truly united by hockey - and we want to share its story with Canadians from coast to coast to coast." Located on the shores of Newfoundland's Bay St. George, Stephenville is a progressive Canadian town with a population of more than 8,000. It is the second largest community with a high level of industrial activity. "We are absolutely delighted that Hockey Day in Cananda is coming to Stephenville," said Mayor Tom O'Brien. "This is a tremendous treat for our community and for hockey fans across the region - but most importantly it's a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our minor league hockey participants who are so passionate about their sport."12/12/05
