The Norman Regional Competitions were held January 23-24 at the Gordon Beard arena in Thompson. The Flin Flon Skating Club registered nine skaters in the competition, which is sanctioned by Skate Canada. Our skaters did extremely well, bringing home a number of medals in different events. Four of the skaters will continue on to Provincials in Carberry, Manitoba in early March. Dayle Nivon, Shania Nordick, Megan Yaworski and Hanne Buettner will represent the Norman Region and Flin Flon. Another senior skater, Mikayla Gawiak, will compete in the Manitoba Open on February 14. There will be a final competition in late March in Stony Mountain, MB, where a number of our skaters will take to the ice. Carla Wabick and Heather Ellingson Powell, the girl's coaches, are proud of the effort the girls have put into their skating this year. The following are results from Thompson for Flin Flon: Dayle Nivon skated for comments in her Senior Bronze Freeskate and Senior Bronze Short Program Ð winning a Gold medal in Introductory Interpretative and a Bronze in Junior Silver Spins Kara Rutlety skated for comments in Interpretative and Bronze Creative Skills Ð winning a Silver medal in Junior Silver Spins Mikayla Gawiak skated for comments in Junior Silver Freeskate, Senior Improv, Silver Interpretative and Silver Creative Skills Ð winning a Goal medal in Junior Silver Spins Meagan Yaworski brought home a Gold medal in Preliminary Freeskate, Gold in Pre-Introductory Interpretative, Silver in Preliminary Team, Gold in Preliminary Spins and Gold in Preliminary Compulsory Shania Nordick won Bronze in Preliminary Freeskate, silver in Introductory Interpretative, Silver in Preliminary Team, Bronze in Preliminary Spins and Silver in Preliminary Compulsory Hanne Buettner earned a Silver medal in Pre-Preliminary Team, Gold in Pre-Preliminary Freeskate, Gold in Entry/Pre-Preliminary Team, Gold in Pre-Preliminary Spins and Bronze in Pre-Preliminary Compulsory Melissa Zielke earned herself a Gold in Entry/Pre-Preliminary Team and a Bronze in Entry Level Compulsory Hasana Church took home a Gold in Entry Level Freeskate, Gold in Entry/Pre-Preliminary Team and Silver in Entry Level Compulsory
