A total of 45 participants skated in the 2004 Norman STARSkate Competition, held in Flin Flon on January 31. The participating communities take turns so that each community gets to host the event every four years. Participants were from The Pas, Snow Lake, Mystery Lake, Gillam as well as Flin Flon. The four judges were from Brandon (2), Dauphin (1) and Thompson (1). Mayor Dennis Ballard was on hand for the opening ceremonies to welcome everyone to the competition and to give credit to the organizers and volunteers for doing such a fabulous job. A special presentation was made in the form of a bursary given by Larry and Judy Bartlette in memory of their daughter Danielle. Danielle was a member of the figure skating family and was well liked, happy and very encouraging to her peers. The bursary was presented to Heather Bergin, one of Danielle's teammates, who had the top freeskate of the event.
