The Flin Flon Bombers were in Melfort on Wednesday looking for their first road win of the season against the Mustangs.
Flin Flon led 3-2 midway through the second period, but two quick Melfort goals before the period was over gave the Mustangs a 4-3 lead, and that is how this one would end.
For the Bombers, Chris Rauckman continued his hot play, scoring his fifth goal in three games.
Also scoring for Flin Flon were Seamus Maguire and Austin Calladine, who returned to the Bombers this week after being reassigned by the Swift Current Broncos of the Western Hockey League.
Cole Hyrsky netted the winner for the Mustangs on the power play at the 13:02 mark of the second period. Dakota Boutin, Justin Boyer and Adam Fauchoux picked up the other Melfort goals.
The Mustangs outshot the Bombers 34-24. Netminder Simon Hofley kept the score close enough to give the Bombers a chance to win, but they couldn’t find the equalizer in the third period.
Flin Flon was without head coach Mike Reagan, who was in Drumheller, Alberta, to watch two games this week. The Bombers are selecting a player to finalize the deal that sent Devon Buffalo there last season.
Assistant coach Garry Childerhose filled in for
Wednesday’s contest, joined by head scout John Klassen.
Reagan will be back behind
the bench tonight when the
Bombers return to the Whitney Forum to host the Estevan
Bruins, the start of a six-game home stand. The Humboldt Broncos
will be in town tomorrow.
