Welcome to another week of the Sports Experts column. There has been a lot of talk about Steve Moore and his lawsuit pertaining to the Todd Bertuzzi incident. The way I understand it, Moore filed the lawsuit in Denver, stating that the incident started during a game in Colorado where the Canucks conspired to get Moore back for his hit on Marcus Naslund. That way, he can sue Brad May and Marc Crawford, who publicly stated their intentions to punish Moore. While the conspiracy theory may be a bit of a stretch on Moore's part, the 'Experts' had some theories of their own. "Did it really surprise you that Steve Moore would launch a civil suit and name as many people as he could in the suit? I think he forgot to include O.J. Simpson because I'm sure he had a hand in this as well." - Tom T. "While I don't fully agree with what Markus Naslund said involving Steve Moore, I must agree with him in principle on one thing. Steve Moore has every right to sue the man responsible for injuring him, as the law states. However, he is nothing more than a greedy guy trying to get more, as he extends the lawsuit to Brad May, Marc Crawford, and the Canucks organization. This was not the fault of Marc Crawford, or the Canucks organization in any way. This was the actions of one man, going too far. Why not just sue the NHL for allowing it to happen? Sue the Avalanche for not protecting him, sue the guy selling drinks in the stands for not saying something when Bertuzzi went for the shot. Sue the man responsible, but don't just sue anyone you can for more money." - Jeff K. "Yesterday it was reported that Marcus Naslund came out and bashed Moore for this move saying, and I quote 'This is just a guy who's trying to hit a home run (financially),' Naslund said to the Sun. 'Someone who wasn't good enough to play.' Well, I must reply to that and say when last I checked Moore was playing in the NHL, and had played in 57 games to the point of his neck being cracked. So, whether you believe he should be suing or not, he does have grounds to because he has potentially lost his livelihood to a criminal act. If he is able in the future to start retraining to get back to the NHL, will he be able to? It depends on how long it takes to heal to the point where doctors will give him the green light to start training. If that time is too far down the road, he may never regain the conditioning that let him earn a living in the NHL, even if he was not a Super Star, he still earned his way on one of the top lineups in NHL. So Naslund, better try to think before you speak in the future, maybe he will sue you next for starting this whole mess by having your head down on the tracks. Just be glad it was Moore that hit you and not Scott Stevens or you would never have returned at all and we would never have heard any more about it." - Shane C. "Not sure what to think about the Steve Moore lawsuits.ÊOn one hand, he most likely can't work for the rest of his life, so he probably needs the money.ÊBut on the other hand, I am sure his team not only has the money, but also had insurance on his contract so he should be getting lots of cash there.ÊAny other reason for the law suit, is just plain dumb in my opinion.ÊWhat happen to Moore was terrible, but it should be left on the ice." - Steve M. The NHL has finally officially canceled the entire season. I think that they made up their mind in October, but at last there is finally some closure on the issue. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like they will come to an agreement any time soon, and no one seems to care. "It's about time they put us out of our misery. Besides, I like keeping up with the Manitoba Moose better anyway." - Tom T. "I give the owners a big thumbs up on locking out the entire season. I disagree with Grapes, when he said real fans would never want a season canceled. First, a 20 game season is not a season, don't kid yourself. Second, it's about time we show these spoiled brats of players how serious the owners are. The owners can't lie to the IRS, and the players refuse to look at the books. They are spoiled babies, who want their own way, or no way. Good for you owners, for showing the players that you won't break for their greedy desires." - Jeff K. "I watched the Daytona 500 and it is more exciting than watching anything else on sports TV. The NBA all-star game was a sleeper, although there was a couple good plays that I could have just watched on the highlights. The race itself is exciting - where else do you get 200,000 people to go and watch an event live? The finish was incredible, at least three lead changes in the last nine laps. So long NHL, I got NASCAR now." - Rob B. If you are interested in joining the panel of experts, send an e-mail to: [email protected].
