After a week's hiatus, Sports Experts returns with a mix of hockey and ball. The stage is set for the Royal Bank Cup, WHL and AHL hockey playoffs are in full swing, and the NHL is still missing in action. On a related note, I'm finding it hard to get excited about the World Championships. I'm more excited about the Jays this week, but who knows what next week will bring. Just kidding Jeff. "Everyone seemed to be off the bandwagon so soon when the Jays lost five in a row. However, everyone forgets they played 17 days in a row, and they lost those games against New York and Baltimore. It's tough enough to play 17 straight days, but against those teams? Yikes! The Jays have (as of Tuesday, when I wrote this) won six of their last seven and are going for more. I HATE bandwagon jumpers. If you're only gonna like winners, just be a Yankee's fan, because they will win, or be winners, nine of every ten years. Unless you are gonna be through the good AND bad, leave the Jays alone." - Jeff K. "There really isn't a lot to talk about at the World's this year, I'd much rather talk about the European soccer league, way more interesting to watch. For once I can honestly say, Canada put together a Garbage team.ÊSo how about baseball? The Blue Jays are looking pretty good. Hockey is stupid without anything good to watch." - Adam R. Barry down in Kentucky seems to be more on top of the hockey playoffs than I am. "Round two of the American Hockey league playoffs started this week.ÊThe only Canadian team still in contention is Manitoba.ÊThe Moose knocked off the Baby Leafs in five games, marking the end of that franchise in St. John's. The team will play out of Toronto next season, and will be re-named the Marlboros.ÊMeanwhile, Manitoba is playing the Rochester Americans in this round." - Barry H. He's also around a lot of sports that I don't get a chance to watch. "The 131st running of the Kentucky Derby, horse-racing's first jewel of the triple-crown, goes this weekend at Churchill Downs in Louisville. The clubhouse and grounds at the famed park has just undergone a $3 million renovation, something which shouldn't have an impact on the outcome of the race. What might have an impact however, is the recent announcement that the top finishers will be tested for drugs immediately after Saturday's race. While blood testing before the race is nothing new, this marks the first time that derby winners will be tested following the race. Derby officials also learned earlier this week of a change in sponsorship. VISA, the credit card company, announced that they were terminating their sponsorship of the triple-crown, and entering into a 5-year deal to sponsor the Kentucky Derby." - Barry H. If you are still following the Junior Hockey playoffs, Brandon defeated Prince Albert in another thrilling seven game series. They will meet the Kelowna Rockets in the League final. You can follow the upcoming Royal Bank Cup tournament on the web at www.royalbankcup.com. The tournament starts May 7 when host Weyburn opens up against Portage.
