A slow domino effect is happening with NHL teams using their vintage jerseys as third jerseys. The Buffalo Sabres recently announced they would go back to their original ones for a certain number of games. I think it's great to see some teams bring those back. As a Canucks fan I know several others like the green jerseys with the stick in the rink. Being a traditionalist, it's a reminder of when hockey was really good. Now that the style of hockey is returning to scoring and the games are more exciting, more retro jerseys should return. Here's what the panel had to say: Brent Lethbridge: Good Lord, don't they have enough to do in Buffalo. Blue and yellow for team colours!! Management has way too much time on their hands if they are thinking about this stuff. The Sabres old jerseys rate as the ugliest jersey in professional sports. Probably up their with the Saskatchewan Rough Riders gear. Did you ever see anyone walking around with an old Sabre Blue and Yellow Jersey? Their alumni won't even wear those things. Now when you consider the Chicago Blackhawks uniform, you understand how they stand the test of time, the colour, the logo and crest. Classic and timeless, like the Detroit Red Wings and the Canadiens. What I don't like is, well everything else, most notably Atlanta and Minnesota or anything with green in it. Green is not a good hockey colour as it does not adequately reflect the physical nature of the sport. Who could possibly be intimidated by the jolly green giant? No, they should mandate bylaws to prevent green and yellow colours in the NHL. Jason Mandes: The retro look is cool. I love Buffalo's blue and gold uniform. The boys are going to look sharp lighting up the Flyers in their traditional sweaters. My favourite vintage jersey is the purple and gold of the Los Angeles Kings. The Quebec Nordiques uniform is a close second for me. I'm not a fan of the Sharks or their teal uniforms. I can't stand any St. Louis Blues uniform regardless of what year it was made. Chadd Ticzon: I don't think too many teams should go retro because there are jerseys that I don't think anyone wants to wear or see. Kind of like the retro Canucks jersey, no originality. Just a stick in a blue box. I'd be lying if I said that whoever thought of the design was a genius. A jersey I would like to see more of though is the old Quebec Nordiques Ð the jerseys were almost as good as the team. Okay, the jerseys weren't that good, but still one of my favs. Tanner Brough: I can't stand those "retro" colours that buffalo wears. They are the ugliest thing since Jason Allison on a penalty shot. The most colourful jerseys in sports must be the Houston Astros of the '70s. Man were those ugly. I hope the NHL doesn't start to follow the NBA, where a team changes colours twice a year (I think). I like to see teams stick with simplicity, like all the original six teams. Go Leafs Go! Sports Experts welcomes anyone's thoughts on what has been discussed.
