This week's topic for the panel is on controversial athletes Sean Avery of the L.A. Kings and Terrell Owens of the Dallas Cowboys. Avery made headlines when he re-signed with the team that sent him home before the season ended last year for mouthing off his coach. Terrell Owens returned to the spotlight Ð if it ever left him Ð as he made back-to-back appearances on Off The Record last week. The question for the panel is what do they think of the Kings re-signing Avery and do they think the media should give Owens the attention they do? Or is it better off to stay clear of him no matter what he does? Brent Lethbridge Sean Avery might not be the best actor in L.A. (remember the dive and being called on it by the league), but he definitely has the best agent. What other possible reason would a team take Avery back after his fiasco season of 2005-06? His 15 goals and 257 penalty minutes might be good on a winning team (like Neil in Ottawa) but on a losing team, he's an embarrassment. I say send him to finishing school in Toronto. Terrell Owens knows the value of entertainment. Terrell understands professional sports is in the entertainment business. Selling tickets to football games only raises his value to a club. Would I want him on my beloved Super Bowl champ Steelers, no I would not. Would I love to see him take a big open field hit by a crazed steel town linebacker, yes I would. I would pay to see that. And in about three years , when he is playing for some CFL team in professional football, we will see if he still has the tonsil wag going. Till then Ð its all good Jason Mandes I don't mind the Kings giving Sean Avery another chance. He might not like visors, Andy Murray, Georges Laraque, or Colin Campbell, but he is a decent hockey player. Avery scored 39 points in 75 games despite taking 257 penalty minutes. I know people are saying he is a cancer to the team, but hopefully Crawford can keep him under control. Chadd Ticzon My opinion on the L.A. Kings signing Sean Avery is that if you think a player is an asset to your team, go on and sign the guy. Personally I wouldn't sign him. I don't think he is that great of a player. He does a better job bringing the team down than helping them. I don't see his name at the top of the stat sheet, or on highlights, or his team doing any better than past years. If you're going to sign a player with a history for causing drama within a team, he better be pretty damn good. That brings up the next topic Ð T.O.(Terrell Owens) and the Eagles. I hope T.O. gets to play this season. What separates him from Avery is that this man can play. A man that can catch a decent pass while being under double coverage or even triple, what more can I say? I know he's the NFL's bad boy, but if you're that good, sign the fellow! Tanner Brough I'll start with Terrell, I seen a bit of the two episode special on O.T.R last week Ð I can't stop laughing. I think he's awesome. He loves stirring the pot and I can't get enough of it. He's a great athlete. He produces game in and game out, so if he wants to tell everyone how great he is I say let him. If the other teams don't wanna see T.O. celebrate, just improve your defense Ð that simple. Sean Avery is a lot like Owens, just with out the talent. He's always got something to say, it's just too bad that everyone knows him because of his big mouth. We'll have to wait and see how he can fit in with the new boss (Mark Crawford) in L.A. Maybe he should just start looking for a TV. crew to film a reality show about him.2/8/06
