The curling rink side of the Creighton Sportex has transformed yet again as walkers stay inside to beat the cold weather. The Sportex is open for anyone interested in taking part to walk inside on the track instead of outside. Recreation director Channa Senyk has put together a program, which will run every Thursday morning, called Walking Buddies. "We had nine walkers out for the first day, so I thought that was good," says Senyk, referring to the inaugural walk held on Thursday at 10 .m. Aside from the comfort of walking inside, walkers will also have the comfort of knowing someone else is there in the building. Senyk, along with a public nurse, will be at the Sportex once a week as blood pressures are taken. "Some people have their blood pressure done before they walk, but others do it when they are finished," she says. Thursday, as it was the first day for the program, walkers were presented with a pedometer and a flasher, which is worn on the clothing at night to make sure drivers can see you.
