A full team effort on Saturday night gave the Flin Flon Bombers their third win of the season, 4-1 over the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The victory was a key one for the Bombers, who are now within one win of catching both La Ronge and Melfort for fourth spot in the Dodge Conference, with games in hand over both teams. Joey Moggach had a three point night for the Bombers, with two timely goals and an assist, including the game-winner and an empty net goal to ice the win. Jeff LaPointe opened the scoring at 6:04 on a power play with a blast from the point, with Andrew Skrabek and Derek Gallagher assisting. It was the only goal of the first period, and the shots were 7-6 in favour of the Bombers after 20 minutes. Joey Moggach brought the puck out from behind the net and beat goaltender Mike Carozza on the glove side to give the Bombers a 2-0 lead, with John Iron and Andrew Skrabek picking up the helpers. The goal was scored on Flin Flon's second power-play of the game. Conrad Wilgenbusch, not known for his toughness, dropped the gloves with Kirby Markowsky, showing the sorry Ice Wolf that the Bombers are not to be messed with on home ice. Tyler Stinton, Quinn McIntosh and Eric Knutson also showed their tough sides at different points in the game. Flin Flon went 3/3 on the power-play as Derek Gallagher scored his sixth power-play goal of the season at 10:25 from Moggach and LaPointe. The Bombers increased their power-play effectiveness, going 3/5 on the night. See 'Bombers' P.# Con't from P.# La Ronge went on the attack in the second half of the second period, but Paul Reimer turned away all 13 shots the Ice Wolves sent his way. The Wolves didn't get on the board until 14:32 of the third period, when Brian Lewis scored on the power play. The Wolves scored once on five power plays on the night. With the Bombers killing a penalty late in the game, the Ice Wolves took a time-out and pulled their goaltender, but to no avail With 46 seconds left on the clock, Joey Moggach slid the puck into the empty net to make the final score 4-1. Shots in the third period were even at 12-12, although La Ronge out shot the Bombers 31-27. With the exception of the final 10 minutes of the third period, the Bombers controlled the play at both ends of the ice for nearly the entire game. When the Bombers did make defensive lapses, Paul Reimer did his job and bailed them out. It was the first win for the Bombers in almost a month, when they defeated the Melfort Mustangs on October 3. Having the majority of the week to prepare seemed to be just what the doctor ordered for the ailing Bombers, and they will have another six days to rest up and prepare themselves for the Estevan Bruins, who will be in town for a pair of games this coming weekend. In other Bomber news, the team raised over $4,000 at their jail and bail fundraiser on Thursday, after expenses, and have purchased team jackets and track pants for the players. New at Saturday's game was the Northland Ford Frisbee Toss. Participants could purchase a frisbee at the door, and after the second period, a bucket was placed on the centre ice dot. When the house announcer said go, over 100 frisbees were tossed onto the ice surface. Since no one got their frisbee into the bucket, the prize money will be carried over to next game, and will accumulate until someone wins the pot. The prize grows by half of the total frisbee sales each game. Similar fundraisers have been popular at other rinks in the SJHL in the past, including the puck toss in Weyburn, where numbered pucks are thrown at the centre ice dot.
