Flin Flon native Delaney McIntyre continues to excel on the soccer field and in the classroom.

In her junior year at University of Minnesota, Crookston, McIntyre was recently named to the 2014 Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference (NSIC) Fall All-Academic Team.

Students are required to be members of a varsity travelling team as well as hold a cumulative grade point average of 3.20 or better. McIntyre’s current GPA is 3.24.

McIntyre is among 10 players from the University of Minnesota Golden Eagles women’s soccer team to be named to the roster.

And although it may not come as a surprise to those who know her, McIntyre says she was not expecting to be named to the All-Academic Team team for the second year in a row.

“I was honoured! All glory to God,” she wrote in an email to The Reminder after finding out the news.

“I’m just blessed to be able to be acknowledged for not only my skill on the field, but in the classroom too,” she wrote. “Sometimes it’s difficult to balance soccer, working, having a social life and taking a full-time course load each semester.”

McIntyre says she manages “to do what [she] needs to do” to keep on track.

Of the 624 athletes named to the All-Academic Team, McIntyre was one of 24 from the Crookston campus – up four from last year’s team.

It’s been an impressive year for McIntyre as she also received an award for All-Conference at the end of her junior soccer season.

McIntyre had set a goal with her coach to achieve this award, but says she was surprised to hear she had earned it.
