The popular local soccer league is gearing up for another year of soccer fun, with registration getting underway tomorrow. Brian Gold, vice president of the Phantom Lake Soccer Club, noted that registration will take place Tuesday, March 8 at the Whitney Forum from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., Friday, March 11 at the public library from 5 p.m. to 8 p.m., and Saturday, March 12 at the library from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. The soccer league is open to all youth, boys and girls, from age five through their teens. Soccer registration forms are available from the library, schools and the Aqua Centre. A reminder that new players need to bring a birth certificate when registering. It is hoped the season will get underway the first week in May, depending on the condition of the fields. "We will be doing some development of the Phantom Lake soccer pitch this year," noted Gold. "Because of this, we won't be using that pitch, to give it a rest for a year." A new area that will be used, by some of the younger players, will be the small field adjacent to the Centoba ball diamonds. Also, for future use, the Town of Creighton is planning to build a soccer pitch behind the Lions Spray Pool. It could be ready for play next year. "The Phantom Lake Soccer Club is always looking for new volunteers, we have lots of jobs available," said the vice president. To volunteer please phone the soccer hot line at 687-8200. Last year, there were just under 500 youth in the soccer program. The Manitoba Soccer Association will be holding a coach/referee clinic around the middle of May. Phone the soccer hot line. and leave a message if you want to participate in this.
