It is the time of year when most families are occupied with back to school and activities like swimming lessons, music, dance, and hockey. Even though our soccer season concluded at the end of June the Phantom Lake Soccer Club has some very important meetings scheduled. The club requires the involvement of the community to continue to function. The 2004 soccer season had 476 children registered with our club. Our soccer season only lasts approximately seven to eight weeks. Although the season is short it requires a lot of time and dedication from the executive and volunteers throughout the year to ensure the club runs efficiently. The soccer club is in need of volunteers to fill key positions on the executive and volunteer committee to ensure the long-term viability of our club. Without people in these positions the future of our club is in jeopardy. There has been a lot of time and money invested in our club over the many years that it has brought enjoyment to the children of our community. There are two important meetings that everyone involved in our club should attend. General information meeting: Wednesday, September 29 at 7 p.m., Rotary Room, Flin Flon Public Library. Information will be provided about the requirements of our soccer club to function as well as give people a chance to ask questions and give input. Annual general meeting: Tuesday, October 5 at 7 p.m., Rotary Room, Flin Flon Public Library: Report of Club business for 2004 Election of new executive Fulfill key volunteer positions. Some of the key positions that our club needs to function are president, vice-president, secretary, treasurer, equipment manager, technical coordinator, field maintenance, division, fundraising, volunteer, game scheduling, referee, registration, wind-up and medals coordinators. Some of these positions are further broken down in terms of sub-coordinators. This is not an inclusive list and does not include the approximately 36 coaches and the more than a dozen referees we require. Many of our key positions were not filled for the 2004 season and our club can not function that way for the 2005 season. Soccer is such a great sport. It is fun and exciting and our children love it. The Phantom Lake Soccer Club wants soccer to be enjoyable for the executive, volunteers, parents, coaches, refs and most importantly the children of our community. We need your help and we need you to be present on September 29 and October 5. If you are interested in any of these positions or have any question please call our Soccer Line at 687-8200.
