Over the past 10 years, KidSport has granted over $740,000 to Manitoba children to provide them with the opportunity to participate in sport, representing over 7,000 kids. They have also distributed over two tons of sports equipment KidSport was established by Sport Manitoba in 1993. It is a charity designed to help financially challenged children, age 5-17, participate in sport. The benefits of sport are far reaching, affecting everything from building self esteem to developing social and team skills, as well as making healthy life choices. KidSport believes that every kid deserves a fair and equal opportunity to play organized sport. The KidSport goal is to provide children with the opportunity to achieve physical, social, intellectual and moral development through participation in sport. The focus is on the economic, social and educational needs of the kids in their communities. Through the KidSport fund, qualified children can access grant monies to put toward sport registration fees. Application forms are available by contacting your regional sport office. KidSport also offers an equipment recycling program. They collect new and used equipment and distribute it to children who cannot afford to purchase their own. The KidSport warehouse is home to a wide variety of used equipment which is safety expected by trained technical sport directors. Only safe, quality preowned gear is distributed to ensure that the kids receive the best available equipment. If you have gently used sporting equipment to donate, or if you need some, contact Amber at Sport Manitoba's Norman regional office at 204-677-6785. You can also call her to see if you qualify to receive grant money to put towards registration.
