The snow is melting on the ball diamonds and that can only mean one thing _ baseball and slo pitch seasons are just around the corner. At the Flin Flon Creighton Slo Pitch League's annual general meeting (AGM) last week, president Trevor (Grubby) Thompson announced the season will start Wednesday, May 22. Representatives from each team, minus two, attended the meeting at Burkee's Sports Lounge. As it was last year, the season will cost teams an entry fee as well as a fee for each tournament _ with the exception being the Year End Tournament. Teams are required to have their fees paid by May 13. A final meeting will be held May 15 where teams will be able to collect schedules. During the course of the hour-long meeting, questions were posed from both Thompson and team representatives about the upcoming season. A vote was taken by those in attendance whether a Red Eye Tournament should be reinstated. In previous years, the 24-hour tournament has led to problems. The status of the Red Eye was undecided at the end of the meeting. A close vote by those in attendance will leave it up to the teams not in attendance. However, other tournament dates were set with June 14-16 a Cash Tournament and July 12-13 the annual Jason Morran Memorial Tournament. The question now is whether the Morran tournament will be the Red Eye tournament. Other tournament dates were set for July 19-21 for a Cash Tournament and September 6-8 as the Year End Tournament. Teams will also be able to participate in three out of town tournaments this year. The Pas will be hosting two this summer _ June 28-30 and August 23-25. In Swan River, teams will be able to compete August 9-11. Highlights The league is looking for more help this year. The possibility of a representative from each team was mentioned, but no decisions were made at the AGM. Thompson announced he would like to have three or four people agree to help with the season. Last season, 17 teams played in the league. The president pointed out that of those 17 teams, he should be able to find help from three or four people. Issues that came up at the AGM were the fencing around the diamonds, sand, cleaning of the fields, and the Lakeside diamond. The league is also looking for more umpires for the upcoming cash tournaments.
