Kelly Carrington Staff Writer Sixteen teams hit the ball diamonds in Creighton, Centoba, and Lakeside for another successful season of slo pitch. The Flin Flon Creighton Slo Pitch League got underway after the long weekend in May and will wrap up its final games with the Year End Tournament next weekend. Before the season closes teams will play between the three diamonds today and on Wednesday for the final games. Throughout the season teams played in five tournaments as well as dozens of regular season games. A few rainy days meant some cancellations throughout the season, but for the majority of the time it was sunny and perfect conditions. Teams worked together as they struck out batters, caught the infield pop flies, and rounded the bases for home runs. The majority of the league's tournaments were open to any team. Teams from The Pas, Swan River, and even Easterville came to Flin Flon for the tournaments _ most times leaving with cash winnings for their efforts. Local teams competed in the annual Jason Morran Memorial Tournament last month as players enjoyed the fun of the sport. With no real competition on the line, guys were required to wear a female bathing suit over top of their clothes if they struck out, or fouled out, while the girls picked up a life jacket, goggles, and flippers. In the cash tournaments things are more serious as umpires call the final shots. With three cash tournaments this year, league fees as well as tournament fees increased for each team _ though there didn't seem to be any complaints. Teams were required to pay $350 to play the season as well as an additional $350 for each tournament. Money collected from both the league fees and the tournaments went into paying umpires, paying winning teams, and keeping the league running. Hitting the diamonds this season were the BallBusters; Jay's Dirty Dozen; Evil Marsupials; Burkees Bedlam; S.W.A.T.; Showstoppaz; Finger Blasters; DOA; Super Troopers; Tycoons; Band Wagon; Scared Hitless; Dirty Little Freaks; Die-Hards; Party Piranhas; and Morning Wood.
