Mother nature is scoring big brownie points with local skiers as the dump of snow continues to fall. The timing couldn't be better as the Flin Flon Ski Club is holding its annual Open House on Saturday, Dec. 2 from 11 a.m. until 4 p.m. If you don't have skis, this event can take care of that, too. People can bring their old equipment to swap or sell and Fresh Air Experience from Prince Albert will be bringing their latest gear. Once the Open House ends, people can gather for a potluck social that starts at 5 p.m. "The Open House is key to what happens this year," said vice-president, Dave Price. "I'm ecstatic about the season. I have gone skiing the last two weekends." There are 27 kilometres of groomed trails, including the 2.2 kilometre lighted Valley Loop. There are also various programs available such as the ski instruction, the Jackrabbit, Special Olympics program, guided tours, and the ~ Moonlight & Candle Light socials. On Wednesday evening there are time trials, ski rentals, and Moms & Tots skiing. The 32nd Annual Centaloppet & Winter Festival is taking place on February 11, 2007, and the NOR-MAN Winter Games & Revival Loppet on February 25, 2007. Next weekend on Saturday, December 9, there will be a free ski day. The club hopes to have rental skis available. According to the club, the ski trails look great. To ensure an enjoyable time for skiers, the trail grooming is being done this year with a new 2004 model Ski-doo Skandic. "This was made possible through the generosity of the Flin Flon Rotary and Lions Clubs," Price said. "We also had generous help from Gardewine's, the Old Time Bombers, Cross Country Saskatchewan and several Ski Club members. To clear our debt on the Skandic, we are planning a Skiathlon on Saturday December 30." For additional information contact president Tim Spencer at 687-7768.
