The Flin Flon Ski Club has a new multi-use building, thanks to the work of local grants and volunteers.
The building will be used by the club as an official’s area for major events and races post-COVID-19 and can also be used as a shelter and waxing area for skiers. The building is just under 200 square feet in size.
The club received grants from both the Northern Neighbours Foundation and Cross Country Saskatchewan to build the building, which was then built by local contractor Paul’s Construction last summer. Once built, the building was moved to its current site.
“After COVID-19 is finished, we hope that this will building will become a great spot to relax, wax up or just meet with other skiers,” reads a statement from ski club president Dean Grove.
“The executive of the Flin Flon Ski Club would like to thank all the people who pitched in to help to see this project through to completion.”
With the base of the building finished up, one last touch was needed - a door. The club received a door for the building, donated by the Guthrie family and fixed up by club member Duane Davis. With the grunt work done, the club sent the door to artist Karen Clark, who painted a northern wilderness scene on the exterior. After a coat of clear coat was applied to protect the design, the door was mounted and hangs at the building today.
Another donation came from the Northern Fellowship Chapel in Creighton, which donated two used wooden pews to the club for use as benches inside the building. Two other club members, Dean Grindle and Shaun Nabe, are currently scheduled to install plywood on the outside of the building this spring to protect it during the offseason.
