The coming season promises to be exciting times for the Flin Flon Skating Club. The executives have changed the way two of the major programs will be delivered this season. The Club is very excited to welcome Heather (Ellingson) Powell to their coaching staff where she will join Carla Wabick. Heather is a qualified Level 2 Certified StarSkate and CanPowerSkate Coach who obtained her experience at the original Creighton Skating Club where she teamed coached with Rhonda Chaisson. After a time in the Caribbean, she is back with her husband, Alton, and son, Bradley and is excited about joining the FFSC. Heather is an upbeat, positive person who presents skilled delivery of the SkateCanada programs. With Heather on board, the FFSC will be offering the CanSkate program with two coaches on the ice. This increases the professional instruction time per skater. The FFSC is also very excited to have Heather coaching the CanPowerSkate program. HeatherÕs delivery of this program will be organized with the skaters always on the move. The StarSkate program will be team coached by Carla and Heather. The StarSkate program consists of skaters who skate to compete and/or test. These skaters concentrate on freeskate, dance, skills and interpretive solos. We are proud to see our skaters progress through the various levels and have skaters pursuing their gold levels this year. With the coaching staff in place, the FFSC is moving forward with registration and planning this years skating season. There will be a Skate Canada Manitoba Day on Sunday, September 28, 2008 at the Whitney Forum, which is to promote the CanSkate and CanPowerSkate program as the best fun way to Learn to Skate. Anyone can skate (with a helmet), meet our coaches and see how the program is run. There will also be registration held during this event with continual registration throughout the year as well.
