Sk8 will be showing off the tricks of the trade on Sunday as the group from Winnipeg will host a skateboarding demonstration at Creekside park. Using the cement pad of the bunk, the group will show off a few tricks and land a few jumps. The first hour of the two-hour long event will be the demonstration. Residents of the area are encouraged to watch the demonstration and then take part in the clinic Ð the second part of the event. Brought in through the City of Flin Flon's Parks and Recreation, Brenda Russell says the event will be great for all of the skateboarders in town. "It's a (fun way) to close out the summer with a unique event here in Flin Flon," said Russell. With hopes of seeing a number of people at the demonstration, the Recreation Director says there will be something for everyone. "Skateboarding is a very popular sport around the world," she said. "This is an opportunity for people to enjoy it as a sport for those who partake, but also (for) the entertainment as a spectator." Russell says having Sk8 come to Flin Flon is a great example for those looking to get into the sport. She says the athletes appreciate the sport, they are dedicated and they love it. Sk8 will be bringing their own ramps, half pipe and rails to Flin Flon. Russell says the group will perform tricks that will "show (their) incredible athletic ability" as well as the "physical strength and technique that it takes. As well, the group will be performing to their own music selection. "It's going to be a festive atmosphere," Russell said. Along side the skateboarding, there will also be food for sale. Proceeds from the barbecue will go towards the proposed skateboard park for Flin Flon. During the demonstration, Russell says there will also be a safety component and teaching the athletes about making good decisions. She says it's about "knowing their limitations on what they should be trying." In the event of rain, Russell says the event will be held inside of the Community Hall.
