Player of the week: Josh Sim, Kindersley Klippers The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Kindersley forward Josh Sim as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd Player of the Week for the period ending September 19th. The 20-year-old native of Saskatoon had a goal and three assists in the season opening win against Battlefords; and then scored a goal and chipped in with two helpers in front of the hometown fans one night later against the Stars. Sim edged out Estevan's Pat McGillicky for the award. McGillicky kicked off the year with four goals against Melville Friday night and also scored once in Saturday's loss. For his efforts, Sim is also the SJHL Forward of the Week. McGillicky, Troy Schwab and Jesse Fischer of the Klippers along with La Ronge rookie Kris Desjarlais were also considered. Defenceman of the week: Gio Flamminio, Kindersley Klippers Twenty-year-old defenseman Gio Flamminio gets the weekly nod as the top blueliner this week. The Klipper stalwart is back for his final season of junior after tasting the NCAA last year. The Prince Albert native had two assists on Friday against the Stars and then had one goal and one assist back home Saturday night. Other candidates for this honour included Brian Lewis of the Ice Wolves, Derek Keller from the Stars, and Estevan's Chris Carr. Goaltender of the week: Pat Conacher, Yorkton Terriers The Yorkton Terriers only played one game last week, but if not for the play of 20-year-old goalie Pat Conacher, they may not have emerged victorious. Conacher made 37 saves and allowed just two powerplay goals to the hometown Weyburn Red Wings Saturday night as the Terriers held on for a 4-2 win despite being outshot. It was Conacher's first win in seventeen games since joining the team midway through last year. Other goalie standouts last week were Michael Clements from the Nipawin Hawks and Alex Gagnon of the La Ronge Ice Wolves. Sim receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Ltd, while Sim, Flamminio, and Conacher all get undergarment wear from ITECH.9/23/2004
