Player of the week: Lorne Tytlandsvik, Estevan Bruins The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Estevan forward Lorne Tytlandsvik as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending October 17th. Tytlandsvik and his linemates were instrumental in igniting the Bruins to go 3-0-1 over the last seven days and also give the Bruins a solid second scoring line. Tytlandsvik had points in three of the four games his team played and finished with two goals and five assists. The 19-year-old from Tribune, SK now has nine points in 14 games on the year. Tytlandsvik edges linemate Trevor Hyatt for the award. Hyatt had two multiple point games last week. Other players worth considering include Derek Dorsett of the Kindersley Klippers, Melville's Bear Trapp, and Melfort's Rylan Gebhart. The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is Gio Flamminio of the Kindersley Klippers. It's the second time this season the 20-year-old Flamminio has won this award and it doesn't figure to be his last. Flamminio had five points in two games over the weekend to help the Klippers register their ninth straight win. Flamminio had one goal and one assist on Friday night in a 5-4 win over the Battlefords North Stars. He added three assists the very next night against the Stars. With six goals and 14 assists in 13 games, Flamminio leads all SJHL blueliners in scoring. Other players that deserve mention when considering the winner are Chris Stubel from Estevan, Nipawin's Patrick Carriere, and Matt Fennell of the Melfort Mustangs. Goaltender of the week: Jamie Lengen, Melville Millionaires The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 20-year-old Jamie Langen of the Melville Millionaires. Langen backstopped the Mils to two big wins last week against some stiff competition as Melville climbs back to .500 on the season and sits in a tie for third place in the tight Sherwood Conference. Langen made 39 saves and picked up an assist on Tuesday night as the Millionaires defeated the Humboldt Broncos 4-2. On Saturday, Langen made 33-stops and also foiled Kevin Lavallee on a penalty shot in the last minute of the third to ensure a 4-3 decision. Langen has played in all but five periods of Melville's fourteen games this season and isn't showing any signs of fatigue. Honorable mentions for this award go to Melfort's Aaron Forer, Estevan's Juliano Pagliero, and Notre Dame's Chance Gieni. Tytlandsvik receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Ltd; while Tytlandsvik, Flamminio, and Langen all get undergarment wear from ITECH.
