Player of the week: Nathan Fischl, Humboldt Broncos The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Humboldt goalie Nathan Fischl as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd. Player of the Week for the period ending October 10th. Fischl was perfect in each of the two games he played last week. On Friday, he made 15 saves as the Broncos blanked the Flin Flon Bombers 5-0. On Sunday, Fischl came through with a 35 save effort as Humboldt defeated Weyburn 4-0. In fact, Fischl now has a scoreless streak of 162:55 that dates back to October 1st when he allowed a late first period goal against the Notre Dame Hounds in a 2-1 loss. For the season, Fischl leads the SJHL with three shutouts and a 1.43 GAA and .960 SPCT. He is 5-and-2 in seven starts. Fischl narrowly beats out Nipawin forward Kevin Lavallee, Notre Dame goalie Chance Gieni, and the Yorkton scoring duo of Chris Korchinski and Jason Wagar for the award. Lavallee had seven points in four games played; while Gieni helped the Hounds extend their winning streak to eight games before losing on Saturday to Nipawin. Korchinski and Wagar combined for 12 points in two wins over Melville on the weekend. Defenceman of th week: Dustin Dubas, La Ronge Ice Wolves The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is Dustin Dubas of the La Ronge Ice Wolves. The 19-year-old Dubas racked up five points in three games over the last seven days as he continues to develop into an elite Junior 'A' blueliner. Dubas started off the week with a goal and two helpers in a 6-3 La Ronge win over the Flin Flon Bombers. He had another goal and an assist on Saturday as the Ice Wolves completed a perfect three game week by downing the Battlefords North Stars 5-3. Dubas is currently tied with Derek Keller of the Stars as the second highest scoring defenseman in the SJHL with 10 points in 12 games. Other players that deserve mention when considering the winner are Nipawin's Patrick Carriere, Melville's Rhett Reinhart, and Jordan Weibel of the Battlefords North Stars. Forward of the week: Kevin LaVallee, Nipawin Hawks The SJHL Forward of the Week is 19-year-old Kevin Lavallee of the Nipawin Hawks. Lavallee kicked off the week with a major boom as he recored two goals and two assists in a 6-5 decision over the Battlefords North Stars on Tuesday night. He had one helper a night later in Kindersley. After a pointless Saturday verus the Notre Dame Hounds, Lavallee picked up one goal and one assist as the Hawks finished in a 4-4 tie with the Stars. On the season, Lavallee leads the Hawks with 12 points in 12 games. Honorable mentions for this award go to Yorkton forward Chris Korchinski, who picked up a hat trick and four points against Melville on Saturday night. Korchinski's linemate Jason Wagar also gets a mention. Dillon Henningson of the Ice Wolves and Battlefords' Michael George also get on the short list. Fischl receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Ltd; while Fischl, Dubas, and Lavallee all get undergarment wear from ITECH.
