Player of the Week: Troy Schwab, Kindersley Klippers The Saskatchewan Junior Hockey League is pleased to announce Kindersley forward Troy Schwab as the Midwest Sportswear Ltd Player of the Week for the period ending October 3rd. Schwab was a key contributor in Kindersley's 6-3 win over the Melfort Mustangs on Saturday night as he scored three goals and one assist. Schwab opened the scoring in the first period and then put the game out of reach with two markers in the third. He finished the night with four points. He also had an assist on the game winning goal against Nipawin on Wednesday night. He had one assist during Tuesday's win against the Hawks as well. Schwab beats out La Ronge forward Doug Exner, who had three goals and two assists in two games played last week. Another contenders for the award was Estevan's Andrew Howden, who picked up points in each of his team's four games last week. Other honorable mentions go out to Shayne Cusack of the Battlefords North Stars, Josh Sim of Kindersley, Humboldt's Jason Miller, and Barry Sparvier from Yorkton. Defenceman of the Week Keith Spencer, Flin Flon Bombers The SJHL Defenseman of the Week is Keith Spencer of the Flin Flon Bombers. The 20-year-old Spencer helped the Bombers pick up their first win of the season on Saturday night against Melville by scoring once and setting up another. On the season, he has one goal and five assists in seven games. See 'Spencer' P.# Con't from P.# He is being leaned on heavily by Bomber bench boss Ryan Hoffman to be a leader on a blueline that lacks experience. Nipawin defenseman Kyle Nichols is the runner-up after turning in two excellent defensive showings in a couple of low scoring games against Kindersley. Other players receiving consideration were Yorkton's Perry Faul, Kindersley's Gio Flamminio, and Matt Fennell of the Melfort Mustangs. Goaltender of the Week: Chance Gieni, Notre Dame Hounds The SJHL Goaltender of the Week is 20-year-old Chance Gieni of the Notre Dame Hounds. Gieni has been a major reason why the Hounds are riding a six game winning streak. He blocked 29 of 31 in a win over Estevan on Tuesday night. He answered that with with 37 saves against Humboldt in a 2-1 decision on Friday. Humboldt's goal was scored while Gieni had to take a momentary breather from the action. Honorable mentions for this award go to Bronco netminder Nathan Fischl, who had a shutout against Melville on Wednesday and was also stellar despite the loss to the Hounds on Friday. Yorkton's Pat Conacher and Estevan's Juliano Pagliero also get honorable mention. Schwab receives a product from Midwest Sportswear Ltd; while Schwab, Spencer, and Gieni all get undergarment wear from ITECH.
