The La Ronge Ice Wolves completed a three player trade with the AJHL's Lloydminster Bobcats on Wednesday by acquiring 1985 born forward Cole Fern in exchange for 1986 born forward Braden Olszewski and 1986 born defenseman Barrett Brook. Fern was an 18-year-old offensive dynamo with the Battlefords North Stars during the 2003-04 season, but was moved early last year to the Fort McMurray Oil Barons. He is off to a slow start this year with just one assist in six games. The 5'10" 190 lbs native of Goodsoil, SK finished with 12-goals and 21-assists in 46-games with Fort McMurray last year. He had 20-goals and 32-assists in 54-games during his rookie campaign with the Stars and then had a goal and two assists in ten games at the time of the trade to Fort McMurray. In Olszewski, the Ice Wolves are giving up their second leading scorer so far this season. Olszewski has 2-goals and 6-assists in 6-games. Head Coach Bob Beatty says it was tough parting with the 5'7" 161 lbs product of Allan, SK. Brook was pointless in 6-games this season, but the gritty blueliner contributes well beyond the numbers. He did score 1-goal and 9-assists in 50-games last year with La Ronge. He also had 151-penalty minutes. He moves closer to his home in Leduc, AB.
